Inscriptions en vieux soundanais : renouveler l’approche philologique

Old Sundanese inscriptions had already been studied by the end of 19th century Dutch scholars, and post-Independence Indonesian scholars have continued to make occasional contributions. However, epigraphic corpus still leaves many problems without a compelling solution, while available editions are uneven quality. This article’s objective is present new fifteen inscriptions, based on direct reading from original artefacts newly made photos estampages, interpret contents these renewing philological approach, pioneered some in century, making systematic use sources preserved manuscripts, order elucidate meaning inscriptions. Our study shows that related social political contexts Sunda region late 15th into 16th they predominantly commemorative nature rather than being records contemporary events.
